Sunil Mittal the chairman of Bharti Airtel, speaking with NDTV World Summit revealed how the scammers duplicated his voice using artificial intelligence (AI) and called his executives and demanded a large money transfer.

This states that the misuse of AI is at high frequency, especially by scammers to commit such kinds of fraud or scams. Sunil Bharti Mittal admitted that, when he heard a voice that sounded like his, he was “totally frightened by this type of fraud” he said:

“This was perfectly articulated just as I would speak”.

“Anyone who would not have happened to be vigilant may have done something about it,” he added.

Being the chairman of Airtel Limited, Sunil Mittal also stated that the official was sensible and observant to realize that Mittal would never ask for such a huge money transfer, and intelligently, the scam was stopped in its tracks.

Why AI is More Dangerous Than You Think

At the event, Mittal the chairman of Bharti Airtel suggested everyone be aware of the misuse of AI technology. Scammers can go a step ahead in the future and also misuse digital images, signatures, identification, and even replicate faces on Zoom calls to succeed in this kind of act.

The world needs to be protected from the evil eye of AI and has to go on the goodness of AI rather than the bad sides of AI. Hence, it is a conundrum for everyone if you get a new technology at the place, as there are always plus and minus.

Sunil Mittal says: Fraudsters use voice cloning and deepfakes in their scams

These days, scammers are using more complex strategies to trick their victims, such as voice cloning and AI-Generated Deepfakes. In social media videos, fraudsters frequently use a few seconds of audio to produce convincing voice reproductions.

They then use these cloned voices to fool family members into donating money. The increasing sophistication of these frauds makes them especially dangerous because even tech-savvy people may find it difficult to tell the difference between the real and the false.

One such development that is especially concerning is the “digital arrest” hoax. Fraudsters use audio or video calls to pose as law enforcement officials. To get money, they further threaten victims and keep them in their houses.
