We all know that old is gold, and this can be seen in the world’s oldest tennis competition, known as the Wimbledon Championships, which is regarded as the most prestigious. Since 2019, this game has been played on outdoor grass courts with retractable roofs over the two main courts. Since 1877, the England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London has hosted the Wimbledon 2024 Championships.

In men’s and women’s singles competitions, there are a total of 128 players. There are 104 direct entries into the men’s tournament and 108 into the women’s, with players and doubles pairs being admitted to the major events depending on their international rankings.

Eight wild cards are available for each of the two events; qualifiers make up the remaining field. 32 players have received seeds in the men’s and women’s singles competitions, while 16 pairs have received seeds in the doubles competitions since the tournament in 2001.

The Wimbledon Championships in 1924 marked the introduction of the seeded system. This was a condensed version wherein nations could propose four players who were allocated to various drawquarters. The 1927 Wimbledon Championships replaced this system, and players were seeded according to merit afterward.

The US Open, the Australian Open, the French Open, and Wimbledon are the four Grand Slam competitions. Tennis is the only major sport that is still played on grass, the original surface of the game. Additionally, it is the only Grand Slam that still has a curfew at night, but matches can now go until 11:00 p.m. under the lights.

The Ladies and Gentlemen’s Singles Finals are set for Saturday and Sunday at the end of the second week. The tournament normally lasts for two weeks in late June and early July, beginning either on the last Monday in June or the first Monday in July.
