On Friday, the 70th National Film Awards winners were announced at the National Media Centre, and the critically acclaimed Malayalam film ‘‘Aattam’ (The Play) bagged the Best Feature Film award. 

As expected, Kannada actor Rishab Shetty won the Best Actor award for his performance in Kantara, a film he also directed, and was warmly received by audiences nationwide as one of the best Kannada movies of all time. 

The Best Actress award at the 70th National Film Awards was shared by two brilliant actresses, Nithya Menen, and Manasi Parekh for their performances in Thiruchitrambalam and The Kutch Express, respectively. 

For the film Uunchai, Sooraj Barjatya received the honor of best director. Announced by the panel headed by Feature Film Jury Chairperson Rahul Rawail, the movies that won multiple national awards at the ceremony are KGF 2, Ponniyin Selvan I, Brahmastra, and Aparajito.

Big Wins at the 70th National Film Awards 

With South Indian films and actors making big wins at the 70th National Film Awards, including Best Feature Film, Best Actor, and Best Actress, this year’s ceremony featured many talents receiving their deserved recognition.

  • The Best Debut Film Award was won by the Haryanvi movie Fouja.
  • The Kannada movie Kantara emerged as the best film in the entertainment category. 
  • The Gujarati movie Kutch Express won the Best Feature Film with National and Societal Values Award.
  • The Best Film with Visual Effects award was won by the Hindi Movie Brahmastra Part I.
  • Neena Gupta received the Best Actor in Supporting Role award for her performance in the Hindi film Uunchai which also won the Best Director award.
  • Sreepath emerged as the Best Child Artist for his role in the Malayalam movie Malikappuram. 
  • Ponniyin Selvan I bagged 3 awards, including Best Tamil Film, Best Music Director, and Best Cinematography. 
  • The action-packed movie KGF Chapter 2 won the Best Kannada Film and Best Action Direction Awards. 

With more awards announced for films and crew for their brilliant work in front and behind the cameras, the 70th National Film Awards jury panel has honored movies certified in the year 2022.
